PFA

Welcome to the Parents and Friends Association webpage.

I am Sarah Bogard, Chair of the Swalecliffe C P School Parents and Friends Association, a charity registered with the Charity Commission.

Before becoming Chair, I was the PFA’s secretary, and I have been involved in supporting the charity since my eldest child – now in Year 5 - was in reception.

I am very well supported by Lucy Harrington, our returning Vice-Chair, and Richard Kendall-Smith, our returning Treasurer. Helen Carter offers up her time to organise the pre-loved uniform each term. Jo Beck and Susie Harrison have also come on board to help with the day-to-day administration, planning and running of events.

We also have a small group of committee members, and we are always happy to have the input and involvement of family members of the children at the school.

Prior to the tricky times in 2020 and 2021, our main fundraising events were a fireworks night, Christmas celebrations (a shopping event in school for the children and a fair), and events towards the end of the school year (including a summer fair). We also held discos for the children and a couple of other smaller events, such as art competitions and providing refreshments at the school sports day.

The fundraising was scaled back for the last couple of years, but we are moving towards holding more events. You will find us at the school each term with pre-loved uniform sales, we held a virtual Christmas shop event which was supported extremely well by the children and their families, and we will be holding a Summer Circus event on Sunday 12th June 2022, where we will be visited by the Pop-Up Circus company to put on three circus shows for us.

All of the funds raised by the PFA are put towards items and events to enhance the children’s school life while at Swalecliffe. We make regular contributions for various items, such as water bottles and book bags for the new starter reception classes each year, contributions towards school trips and also something for the Year 6 leavers.

Our last big fundraising project was the installation of the astroturf track around the perimeter of the school field. This has proved to be a worthwhile installation and means that the children can continue with the Daily Mile whatever the weather, without going home with muddy shoes!

We are always happy to hear of any fundraising ideas that you might have. We like to change up the events we hold, and we are always very grateful for any volunteers for events.

We are a small team and would always love to hear your ideas, and to see new faces at our events. Please join us when you can, and please volunteer as little or as much time as you can spare.

Thank you

Sarah

    Ways to get involved

    • Come to our meetings and help plan our various fundraising events. They’re either held at a local venue or by remote video conference. Dates are circulated to all parents and guardians by email and on the school notice boards.
    • Do you have some bright ideas for raising funds? Send us an e-mail or speak with one of us when you see us!
    • Do you have great organisational and management skills? We always need help organising our events. Let us know if you would be prepared to help run one for us.
    • Enjoy being part of a team? Volunteer to help at one of our events. Some of the events are also a great opportunity for the children the get involved with helping.
    • Not much time to spare? Just spending half an hour setting up or clearing away after an event is a great help to us.
    • Unwanted gifts? We’re always on the look-out for raffle prizes for our events so if your items are new and of good quality, please consider donating them to us.
    • Do you run or work in a local business? We would always welcome local vouchers or prizes for our raffles, and any sponsorship of events.
    • Finally, bring the family along to support our events. The funds raised help the children in the school.
